Wetlands

Wetland Systems Creation & Restoration

Kingfisher has extensive experience constructing wetlands for clients in our many years of business. Whether created new from scratch or restored from preexisting, our projects result in wetlands tailored to the geographic area in which they are constructed and incorporate all necessary habitat elements to attract wetland obligate species. Many wetlands, which once provided valuable habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife, have been reduced or eliminated through changes in landscape practices such as draining, development, or changes in irrigation practices. Kingfisher Consulting will identify the margins of historic wetlands, identify the ground and surface water on which they were dependent, and restore the dynamic interactions between the two, bringing communities of wetland plants back into balance.

Waterfowl Habitat

Kingfisher Consulting has broad experience in the creation of wetland systems that attract and hold viable populations of migratory and resident waterfowl, along with other wildlife. To this end, we work with clients to identify potential sites, assess water sources, water rights, and soil permeability. Past projects have included large, warm, shallow, productive hemi marshes with a diverse distribution of open water and emergent vegetation, along with smaller systems of complex channels and potholes. Furthermore, we develop management plans to ensure that adequate nesting habitat and forage resources are available adjacent to the project site. This holistic approach helps ensure success of the wetland and its wildlife populations long term. Many wetland projects, with our comprehensive method, allow for the development of recreational opportunities, including hunting.
